How to Use

What are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils are volatile aromatic compounds that are found in flowers, roots, bark and seeds.

Best known for their aromatic properties - essential oils trigger and engage the senses. When inhaled, essential oil molecules travel through the olfactory cells located on the roof of the nasal cavity (responsible to the reception of smell) and then continue on to the Limbic system (especially the hypothalamus). This area of the brain is associated with memory and focus. For example, the smell of cinnamon can trigger positive thoughts of Christmas.

How are Essential Oils extracted?

There are two main methods of Essential Oil extraction: distillation and expression.

The most common extraction method is Distillation, which is made up of 3 types:

  • Water
  • Steam
  • Water & steam

The most commonly used method is steam.
